On provincial road N279 between ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Veghel, increasing traffic density was increasingly causing traffic problems. Safety was at stake, there were frequent traffic jams and cut-through traffic was a nuisance in the adjoining villages.
The Province of Noord-Brabant commissioned the construction consortium ‘De Vaart’ (Dura Vermeer, Ploegam and Van den Biggelaar) to widen the road (twice two lanes). Besides making the road safer and improving traffic flow, the desire is to achieve results as soon as possible. Construction work must not interfere with road safety and traffic flow, and consideration must also be given to nature. Besides the widening, the conversion of 3 junctions to flyovers and the realisation of 1 new junction, also flyover, are of great importance on the traffic flow. The slip roads to the A2 and A50 have also been modified, the parallel road has been moved to the north side and a cycle path has been realised along the Zuid Willemsvaart, allowing cyclists to travel safely from Veghel to ‘s-Hertogenbosch.
The challenge in this project was that the many modifications and temporary roads in existing infrastructure had to fit. To this end, Infranea was commissioned by Advin to relieve the construction consortium by monitoring the integral design in a BIM (Building Information Model) and performing clash checks between the various disciplines. Besides this work on BIM direction and BIM coordination, Infranea also had an important role in the realisation of the geometric road design in DO and UO phase as well as Systems Engineering.
